Ethos (askethos.com) is a London-based expert network that pays professionals for paid projects with AI companies and other clients: consultations, written reports, surveys and the review or annotation of data. An AI agent matches you to projects. It is a real company, but onboarding can take weeks and work is not guaranteed.

What Ethos is and how it works

Ethos describes itself in its Expert Terms as a platform that connects experts with clients for projects. A project can be an audio or video consultation, a survey, a written report, a set of discrete tasks, or the review, analysis and annotation of documents, data or other materials supplied by the client. Ethos is often listed among AI training platforms, because part of this work means bringing real professional knowledge to AI projects.

The key difference from platforms like Outlier is how you find work. There is no public job board: an AI agent reads your profile and suggests projects to you. According to the Expert Terms, the matching considers your profile, work and education history, areas of expertise, past project performance, client feedback, screening answers, rate, availability and responsiveness.

Who it is for

Ethos targets professionals with real domain experience: engineers, lawyers, doctors, finance and consulting professionals, researchers and senior managers. Listings shared on third-party job sites include roles such as AI engineer, CTO or head of AI, consultant, policy researcher and pharmaceutical brand manager.

How to join: the onboarding steps

  1. Create your expert profile with your experience, education and skills. Ethos may also use public sources to complete it.
  2. Talk to the Ethos agent. Contributors report an AI-run voice interview about their background as part of onboarding.
  3. Verify your identity. The Expert Terms say Ethos may ask for a government photo ID and a live selfie with a biometric face check, plus sanctions screening.
  4. Get matched and screened for specific projects, then accept or decline each one.

Contributors report that decisions often take from one to several weeks.

Pay and payments

Ethos does not publish a general rate card. The Expert Terms say the rate and payment method are confirmed in writing before each project, and pay is usually prorated on the time you spend. Payment follows the cycle agreed for each project (for example weekly or monthly, or at completion), and you must submit any required invoices or reports within the deadlines. Ethos decides which countries and currencies it can pay to, so check this before you start.

Rates shared by third-party job sites for Ethos expert roles are often around $70 to $100 an hour, with some roles higher. Treat these as indications, not promises: your rate is the one confirmed for your project.

Is Ethos legit? What contributors say

Ethos is a registered UK company with published terms, and contributors report being paid. A review of 399 Reddit comments by Annotation Academy (updated September 2026) also lists recurring complaints:

  • Matching: the agent sometimes suggests roles that do not fit the person’s background.
  • Uneven supply: projects can be plentiful one week and absent the next.
  • Time: tasks can take longer than estimated, and hours wait for quality review before payment.
  • Support: replies can be slow or automated.

Our view: Ethos is worth it for experienced professionals who want high-rate, occasional project work. It is not a source of steady income.

Tips to get projects on Ethos

  • Be specific in your profile: job titles, years, industries, tools and achievements. The AI agent matches on detail.
  • Answer the agent fully: the voice interview and screening questions feed the matching.
  • Keep your ID ready and complete verification promptly.
  • Reply fast: responsiveness is one of the matching factors in the Expert Terms.
  • Check employer rules: the terms require any consents you need from current or former employers, and you must never share confidential information.

Frequently asked questions about Ethos

Is Ethos (askethos) legit?

Yes. Ethos is run by Ethos Artificial Intelligence Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, with published Expert Terms. Contributors report being paid, but also complain about weeks-long onboarding, uneven project supply, matches that do not fit and slow support. Treat it as occasional project work.

How much does Ethos pay?

Ethos confirms the rate in writing before each project, so there is no fixed rate card. Expert roles shared on third-party job sites often show around $70 to $100 an hour, sometimes more. Your actual rate depends on the project, your expertise and the client.

How does Ethos pay experts?

Payment terms are set for each project: usually on a weekly or monthly cycle or at completion, after any required invoices or reports. Ethos decides which countries and currencies it can pay to. As an independent contractor you handle your own taxes and registrations.

Is there an interview to join Ethos?

There is no traditional job interview. Contributors describe an AI-run voice conversation about their background, followed by identity verification with a photo ID and live selfie. After that, the Ethos agent matches you to projects, which may have their own screening questions.

Can I work on Ethos from outside the US or UK?

Contributors outside the US report being accepted, but each project sets its requirements and Ethos decides which countries it can pay to. You must be at least 18 and legally able to work as an independent contractor where you live. Check payment support before accepting a project.
